For this weeks main assignment. My classmates and I were tasked of taking more photos that satisfy a certain category of design. We were tasked to pick four of the ten categories listed below.
- Color
- typography
- metaphors/symbols
- minimalism & use of space
- form/function/message
- balance
- rhythm
- proportion
- dominance
- unity
The four I choose are color, typography, rhythm, and dominance. I have all four pictures shown below with a description on why I think they satisfy their proper category.
First one is color. This picture satisfies color by using one color to make the other stand out and really pop. When looking at the object you get a sense of royalty and fashion just based on the color choice. Which is why this photo satisfies color.
Next up is Typography. This one was harder to decipher exactly what it meant. But I believe the word Winner is expressed on this mug through the photo itself. The handle of the mug is a game controller signifying that the person plays and wins at video games.
Next up we have Rhythm. This photo is of my glasses case. As you can see it’s got a consistent and repeating pattern to it. The texture of my case also makes it feel and look like its made out of carbon fiber. There are other examples of rhythm, but this is definitely one of them.
Finally we have Dominance. This photo is of the infinity gauntlet that Thanos uses in the MCU. The clenched fist and rays of yellow color coming out from the gauntlet shows that it’s power is growing to dominate the purple background. It’s through this display of power that we can see the dominance behind it.
This assignment was a lot of fun. And to experiment using other objects and categories really got my head thinking about design and what other photographers and film makers have to consider when they’re shooting for a scene. Anyways I got some other work that I need to get started on. I’ll talk to all later.
